Dr Peter du Plessis BA (Hons), MSc Med Psych, DClinPsych, CPsychol, AFBPsS
Dr Peter du Plessis has over 30 years of psychological therapy experience. He is a Consultant Clinical and Counselling Psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He is a registered Applied Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Peter is a skilled practitioner utilising an integrative treatment approach based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic Therapy, Mindfulness and Problem Solving therapy approaches. His approach is time-limited and focussed and applied to a wide range of psychological and psychiatric problems such as depression, anxiety and phobia. He has extensive experience in working with bereavement, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, complex trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, and depersonalisation. He also applies his skills to the treatment of somatic complaints, chronic pain, eating disorders, body image problems, low self-esteem, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, relationship problems both in couples and families.
He also advises organisations on employee stress, productivity and staff psychological health. He consults with Occupational Health departments and Human Resources Departments about individuals are experiencing difficulties at work or organisational/departmental issues to address problems in the workplace.
Peter starts from the premise that most people have inherent strengths and skills and focuses on helping people he works with to find these through therapy and to utilise these to solve new problems.
He has been directly involved in the training of both clinical and counselling psychologists and has extensive experience in training other qualified psychologists and psychologists in training.
